I’d always wanted to get into buying, and have always been interested in jewellery, so when an opportunity came up as a Buyer’s Administrator in the H.Samuel gold team it gave me the perfect foot in the door.
It was a temporary six-month maternity cover contract; I worked hard and at the end of my contract I was asked to stay on as a vacancy had become available. Two years’ later I was promoted to Assistant Buyer and I’ve subsequently been promoted again – I’m now working as a Buyer in the Ernest Jones outlet team.
My new role means that I’m working with totally different products and customers and I’m loving the diversity and fresh challenge. That’s one of the great things about a job at Signet - there are plenty of opportunities to gain knowledge across the whole jewellery spectrum - diamonds, gemstones watches and gold.
The best part of my job is getting to know what customers like and working with suppliers to build collections from scratch. We work closely together to develop products our customers will love, identifying which type of products (earrings, pendants and/or rings) would work well in the collection and making sure that the final presentation is as polished as the products themselves.
The hard work really pays off when the products are in store and you know that people are buying and wearing the pieces you have had input designing and selecting.
