When it comes to career development and personal progression, I’ve made the most of Signet’s proactive and supportive approach.
After three months working as an Allocator in the Ernest Jones diamond jewellery team, I moved to the Ernest Jones bridal team, progressing to Senior Allocator the following year. Then, when an internal promotion created an opening, I stepped up to the Assistant Merchandiser role. The highlight of my career to date was being seconded to my current role – Merchandiser in the Ernest Jones bridal team.
Everyone is friendly and helpful, and informal on-the-job training is part and parcel of working for Signet, but the formal training helps too. The Buying & Merchandising Academy, as well as the structured induction programme gives clear guidance to ensure progression. I’ve even gained a qualification from the Chartered Management Institute, which has given me the confidence and skills to support my new position as a line manager.
There’s a great relationship between everyone in the entry level roles. It’s always nice when you start a new job to be able to chat things through with others who have recently been in the same position as you.
The best thing about my job is the fact that it is always changing and is never boring. I enjoy working with a variety of people across all departments, not just the Merchandising function but also Buying, Visual Merchandising and Retail to give our customers the best possible experience.
And of course, it’s never a chore to try on beautiful diamond rings during the buyer’s selection period!”
