A Brilliant Beginning

Joining a new business and team can be a very exciting time, but can also be a bit daunting. Here at Signet we want to ensure our team members have a positive memory of the day their career began with us. Our Brilliant Beginning induction aims to set each team member up for success, whatever their role and wherever they work. We take a blended approach which involves face to face, on the job and online activities and learning.

We like to develop our team members and recruit from within. Our ‘Towards…’ programmes aim to get you ready for your next role. Many a Store and District Manager started with us as a Christmas Sales Associate.

Throughout my Apprenticeship I carried out training, once every few months. This included health and safety, visual merchandising, different payments customers can use, and so much more. As part of my training, I would be assessed on my interaction with customers and receive feedback instantly. Towards the end of my Apprenticeship, I undertook several tests which featured everything I had learnt over the year. Being able to gain a Diploma in Retail skills, as well as being able to progress and step up to a Supervisor position straight after my Apprenticeship, was fantastic. I was very lucky to have such a supportive team; my manager showed her belief in me, every step of the way. The Apprenticeship has allowed me to gain new skills which I can use in my role. It has also given me some fantastic training, support and career growth opportunities and I am excited to see where my career with Signet will take me

My in-store Apprenticeship meant I could work full time, and put the skills I obtained into practice, all whilst getting to grips with our amazing e-learning system. I was also fortunate enough to receive great leadership and continuous support from my manager. Completing the Apprenticeship has set the foundation of my career. Since passing my Apprenticeship, I have become a Supervisor and I look after the watch department in my store.

My level 5 apprenticeship has been a fantastic way to build my knowledge and understanding of the key principles and theories of leadership and management, managing projects and stakeholder relationships, as well as operational management and finance. I am much more self-aware and have gained an appreciation of how emotional intelligence can drive positive outcomes. I am now able to view situations from a stakeholder perspective and take a broader view of the business impact of what me and my team do. An Apprenticeship is a great way to learn skills whilst working and have the chance to apply new skills into your role straight away.
